Why Mary Lambert Is My Hero.

Many know Mary Lambert because of her work with Macklemore on the track "Same Love". Lesser known is the fact that her "part" in that song actually is the chorus of one of her own songs called "She Keeps Me Warm". Mary Lambert, as a singer, is amazing. But she is not just a singer. She is a singer, a poet, an activist. She's the real deal and the more I learn of her the more I love her.

I'm not a big fan of crying. Actually, I really hate crying. Or at least, being seen as a cryer. But I will be upfront and say that I honestly bawled the first time I heard Lambert's song "I Know Girls". Why? Because it's like, in the midst of the increasing wave of "Girl Power" anthems, Lambert's song is one of the first to come out and just hit you in the face with the issues behind the anthems. The reasons girls and women of all ages, ethnicities, and classes struggle every day to even look at themselves in the mirror without loathing. I've not yet reached the "girl power" level. How about just being able to find the strength to see another day?

I've Run Out of Metaphors

I was trying to think of some cutesy title, but really I'm just so fucking tired and it's not worth it at this point. (Also, exhaustion can be clearly illustrated by the fact that I've proofread this post three times and still am not sure I got all the typos.) Life has been running me ragged lately. If you've read any recent posts, you already know what's up.

Fortunately, it looks like things are -finally- starting to normalize. The insurance claim is being processed, my old car has been taken away and either has been auctioned off or is soon to be (still quite upset about this) and I slept through the night for the first time in almost three weeks on Thursday night.

Quick Update

It's been awhile since I've posted, or even had the time to write for that matter, so I figured I'd put up a quick update while I take a moment to look away from work (video editing this week and it is CRUNCH TIME!) and gather my thoughts.

The past month has been crazy. And not all crazy good.

About two weeks ago (was it really only two weeks?) I was in a car accident on my way home from a 5k in downtown Cleveland. The other driver wasn't paying attention (don't text and drive, ya'll!), ran a red light, plowed into the side of my car and sent me spinning down the road only to hit another car. That has to be the scariest thing I've ever experienced.
