YouTube Trolls

Where do I begin?

First off, I should say that I understand that sometimes (most of the time?) there are f****** idiots on the Internet that have nothing better to do with their time and small brains than sit and make stupid comments on YouTube videos. I know this and usually I just roll my eyes and move on.

But something hit me this morning and it just feels like I need to get it off my chest.

Enough with the cheap shots at the fat and/or "ugly" girls. I'm so fucking tired of seeing trolls post ignorant shit (hmmm, my attempt at not-swearing did not last very long). Especially about fat girls. Yes, it hits close to home.

Favorite Places on the Web

So, I haven't had a lot of time to write this week between recuperating from what will henceforth be known as "The Great Wisdom Tooth Extraction of '13" and trying to catch up at work. But I did want to share with you all a few of my favorite blogs and websites. Some of them aren't very big, but they're all pretty cool.

Wisdom Tooth Boredom

Got my wisdom teeth taken out on Saturday. Needless to say, it's been a not-so-fun and painful experience. What I honestly did not expect was the boredom. I am functioning right now thanks to rotating doses of Percocet and Advil. The problem is this makes me well enough to move about the house, but not well enough to do much else. And I've been told that I shouldn't attempt driving while under the influence of prescription drugs.

Perpetuating Beauty Myths

As I am currently playing the invalid (thank you, now missing wisdom teeth), I have a lot of spare time on my hands. Unfortunately my head is still aching a lot, so this doesn't allow me to do much of anything useful with my sick time. It does, however, give me the opportunity to feed my already substantial Pinterest addiction.

As I was scrolling through pins today, I felt like I was getting bombarded. There were all these "healthy", "helpful" pins telling me about this or that one magic solution that would take me from frumpy ugly duckling to hot belle of the ball.

Northern Ohio wRECk Roller Derby

I got some really sad news this week. Northern Ohio wRECk Roller Derby (more commonly known as "wRECk") is holding its final practice on Wednesday, April 24th. Not only is this sad for Cleveland roller derby in general, but it's heartbreaking personally to see this.

wRECk is one of the first places where I made any friends after moving to Cleveland. I'd stopped at their table for information after going to a BRRG bout and been encouraged to come by Justice and Sadie. I scoffed at first. I'd never been on a pair of skates in my life (toddling around in a pair of Little Tyke plastic skates didn't count in my opinion), much less skated on a track attempting a full contact sport.

Doomsday Book

I just finished reading "Doomsday Book" by Connie Willis. I'd mentioned this book briefly in another post, but it really is worthy of its own.

I'd been looking for some fiction recommendations and had happened upon a vlog by John Green (as previously mentioned, one half of the awesome Vlogbrothers team). In this video, he presented a number of recommendations in the "If you like this... You might like that..." format. And wouldn't you know he had a recommendation for everyone. I'm not kidding. He covered everything from Sherlock Holmes to Harry Potter and Fifty Shades of Grey.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

I recently discovered a cool YouTube channel called "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries". Normally, I do not like Jane Austen. Or modern adaptations of Jane Austen. But I've recently discovered this series thanks to Vlogbrothers (on another note, if you don't know Vlogbrothers, go. watch. now. Especially if you are a self-professed nerd or geek.)

Anyway, so "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries" is a modern-day adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Lizzie is a grad student with two sisters, Jane and Lydia. Most of the "book" is portrayed form Lizzie's perspective.

Best. Day. Ever.

Ahhhh!!!! Seriously the best day ever. I'm going to try I write more later but just wanted I post something before the fantastic day ended.

Today I got to visit NASA Glenn for a tour of their SLOPE facility, met a very cool friend for lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, and then we went to see Jurassic Park -in 3D! So much fun. Jam-packed and busy, but in the best way! The few pictures I managed (remembered?) to take are below.

Eggplant Parmesan Bake

As you know, I am a huge Pinterest fan. Pinterest keeps me laughing and keeps me fed. Not even kidding. I feel like half the meals I cook come from pins or ideas based on pins. One of my recent favorites is this one: Eggplant Ricotta Bake from marthastewart.com.

You can find the full original recipe at the link above. It really is worth your time! Even if you think you don't like eggplant, I highly encourage you to give this a try. As for me, I made some adjustments (mostly because I bought the wrong amount of some ingredients) and my recipe is below. Also, I've renamed it Vegetarian Eggplant Lasagna because I feel that 'Eggplant Ricotta Bake' doesn't do it justice.

Delay and Teasers

I've been meaning to write on here for a while -and rest assured more is coming- but life has been a bit crazy lately so I will leave you with some tantalizing tidbits:

-international soccer game excitement

-first foray into eggplant-based cuisine
